Purpose of award
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide opportunity and encouragement for music teachers or music teachers in training to engage in study, research or practical work in music or other related spheres including music therapy, dance and movement.
Selection criteria
This scholarship is available to those students intending to do research leading to a Master's degree or a PhD. The scholarship is available for research in a field of music education supervised at any New Zealand univeristies.
There are also a number of small grants available to individuals proposing personal study which may lead to qualification or enhanced professional practise. Grants have also been awarded to organisations for the provision of musical opportunities which will develop music in the community and for assistance with publications or music events. These scholarships are open to any level of undergraduate or postgaduate study for music teachers or music teachers training to study at Victoria University of Wellington.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Applicants should check the regulations of any other scholarships held to ascertain whether this scholarship may be held at the same time.
How do students apply?
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarships shall be awarded by a selection committee comprising representatives from the New Zealand School of Music and a representative from the Faculty of Education (specialised in Music Education), Victoria University of Wellington.

The Marion Rayward Memorial Scholarship in Music (the "scholarship") arises from a fund established to commemorate the lively interest and contribution to music of Marion Rayward; teacher, student, music adviser, teachers' college lecturer.
