Purpose of award

The main purpose of these Grants is to provide financial support to undergraduate students of Māori and Pacific descent who are experiencing financial hardship and are struggling to meet basic living costs.

Selection criteria

To take up and be paid the Grants the candidates must be enrolled and have paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in an undergraduate degree programme in the University of Auckland Business School.

The basis of selection will be academic merit and financial need (see Notes i and ii).

The Grants are tenable by students of Māori and Pacific descent who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

To continue to hold the Grants the recipients must maintain a full-time degree programme of study at the University of Auckland Business School with a Grade Point Average of at least 3.00 (equivalent to a C+ average) in each semester of study.

How do students apply?

Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date. Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible before you apply.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

The Grants will be paid two instalments: one in the first, and one in the second semester.

Decision makers

The Grants will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising the Dean of the Business School (or nominee), the Associate Dean (Māori and Pacific) of the Business School (or nominee) and one other representative from the Business School.

History or background of award

The Grants were established in 2015 and are funded by the University of Auckland Business School.

Financial need will be determined by a range of factors including current eligibility for a StudyLink Student Allowance, and personal and financial circumstances.
