Purpose of award

An award is offered annually to one or more women students enrolled at the UCOL Palmerston North campuses that have excelled in effort and achievement.The recipient should be in the Third year of their undergraduate degree course i.e. the recipient should have successfully completed two years of their undergraduate degree course.

Selection criteria

The Award is open to a female student who is enrolled in a full time degree course, of at least three years duration, at the Palmerston North UCOL campus. The degree must be on the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications.
The recipient should be in the Third year of their under-graduate degree course i.e. the recipient should have successfully completed two years of their undergraduate degree course.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Recipients will report briefly to The Trust following their final year of study.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

December - April

UCOL advertises the Award at all Campuses, placing an updated application form on the UCOL website and asks staff tutors to encourage suitable applicants to apply.

Monday 1st April Applications close with UCOL

Thursday 18th April

The short list of five or six applicants selected by UCOL staff, together with the relevant student application forms are forwarded to GWMCT and reviewed by the Trust Board sub committee.

Thursday 9th May

Recommendations will be reviewed by the GWMCT Trust Board.

Monday 13th May

During this week the GWMCT will confirm the final decision and notify both UCOL and the shortlisted applicants.

Awards ceremony

The recipients of the Graduate Women Manawatu UCOL Award will be invited to a ceremony where they will be presented with their award. This ceremony will occur after May 2019 and the recipients will be advised of the details once they are notified of their award.

Decision makers

In making the award the committee will consider the applicants history, achievement and effort. This does not necessarily mean that the candidate will be an 'A' student, as consideration will be given to the applicant's previous academic achievement and the effort that has been put into this particular course.

History or background of award

Graduate Women Manawatu operates Academic Dress Hire in the Manawatu area. The profits are disbursed for the benefit of women's education.

Additional information

An award is offered annually to one or more women students enrolled at the UCOL Palmerston North, Wanganui and Wairarapa campuses in an undergraduate degree course that have excelled in effort and achievement.

At present $6000 is available annually for disbursement,  distributed as one, two or three awards .
