Purpose of award

The main purpose of the Scholarship is to support a female student, returning to study from work or parenthood who aspires to a career in teaching.

Selection criteria

The Scholarship is tenable by female students who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
Applications close with the Scholarships Office on 31 March in the year of the award.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

The Scholarship will be paid in two instalments: one in the first, and one in the second semester.

How do students apply?

The Scholarship will be open for applications about 8 weeks before closing date.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

By letter or email, approximately six weeks after the Scholarship closes.

Decision makers

The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Social Work (or nominee), the Faculty of Education Student Services Manager (or nominee) and one representative of the Donor (appointed by sponsors or trustees).

History or background of award

The Sue Caswell Scholarship was established in 2015 by Sue Caswell, graduate of the University of Auckland, who completed a Masters of Education in later life.
 

Additional information

The Scholarship may be held concurrently with any other award or grant as long as a) the terms of that award or grant permit and b) the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves.
