Length of award
One year. Previous Disability Award recipients, past and current Shona Butterfield Scholarship recipients and students receiving Open Polytechnic financial assistance are ineligible.
Number of awards offered
Purpose of award
The Students with Disability Study Awards, worth up to $1000 each, are to encourage and support Open Polytechnic students towards completing a qualification.
- be currently enrolled at Open Polytechnic.
- have successfully completed a Level 3 certificate, or at least 3 courses at Level 4 or above.
- provide evidence of your disability.
- be citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
- agree to the Terms and Conditions in this application form.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Successful candidates must meet all course/programme requirements and comply with Open Polytechnic's general academic regulations where applicable.

History or background of award
We are New Zealand's specialist provider of open and distance learning at tertiary level and the only nationally focused polytechnic.
Please provide evidence of your disability, for example, a health professional report. (Evidence is not required if you have sent this to us previously). Attach to the application form.
On a separate sheet of paper briefly describe how this Study Award will assist you financially. Attach to this application form.
Provide the names of two referees who could be contacted by the Study Award Selection Panel to support your application and comment on your personal qualities. Referees cannot be family members, but could be a:
- tutor or lecturer
- minister or community leader
- employer or supervisor.
