Purpose of award

The scholarship recognises academic and extracurricular achievement of students who have completed a first year of study towards a Bachelor of Commerce and/or Bachelor of Laws degree, and supports study in such programmes at the University of Canterbury for a second year.

Selection criteria

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or holders of New Zealand residence class visas, who have successfully completed at least 120 points of enrolment in study at first-year level towards a BCom LLB degree. They must be in their second year of study in a programme for a BCom or LLB degree at the University. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in a programme for a BCom and/or an LLB at the University, in courses totalling at least 60 points at any level from the BCom or LLB schedules.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

By accepting the award, recipients permit publication and announcement of their acceptance, and indicate that they are willing to engage in University community activities, such as student mentoring, acting as University ambassadors, and being involved with University publicity as appropriate.

Decision makers

The scholarship is awarded by the Council of the University on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising:
a. the Dean of Business (or nominee); and
b. the Dean of Law (or nominee).
