Length of award
The bursary will be awarded on a one off basis at the commencement of semester one. The value of the award is $500 towards course fees.

Purpose of award
The For Better Initiatives English and Foundation Pathways Bursary Award for is designed to help dismantle some of the barriers faced by people with refugee backgrounds.
Applicants must be:
Undertaking English and Foundation pathway courses only;
Have a refugee background (including children of former refugees);
Enrolled at the Manawatu campus of Massey University.
The criteria for the award will be based on previous academic achievement and financial hardship.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
This award may be held with any other award subject to the regulations of the other awards.
How do students apply?
Applicants are to write a brief summary. The summary should be based around answering the following question: "What effect do you think education will have on your future".
The Chairperson of the Scholarships Committee, or their nominee;
A representative from The For Better Initiative;
An academic staff member from the appropriate area of study.

The For Better Initiative is a New Zealand registered charity working hard to dismantle the barriers to education faced by people with refugee backgrounds.
