Purpose of award
This scholarship will cover tuition fees to the maximum value of the scholarship. The remaining funds, if any, will be paid in two lump sums:
1. On confirmation of enrolment
2. At midpoint of study (this is subject to evidence being provided by the applicant of satisfactory progress).
Selection criteria
Student will be of Māori descent
Student will be enrolled in a postgraduate, degree or diploma
Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates a commitment to the community and whakairo.

Applicant Declaration of the Application Form must be signed.

History or background of award
Mike Watson was the Campus Director of the Papaioea campus and served in senior management at Te Wananga o Aotearoa (TWoA) during some challenging times until his untimely passing in 2007. Mike was deeply committed to arts as a way of communicating and reviving Matauranga Māori. This award recognises this passion.
