Purpose of award

The intention of the Scholarship is to encourage and support students undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate study in French, German, Greek, Latin, Italian or Spanish at the University of Auckland.

Selection criteria

The Scholarship may be awarded to students who meet all the requirements of these regulations and enrol full-timeat the University of Auckland in Stage III of a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Arts conjoint degree, Bachelor ofGlobal Studies (BGlobalSt), or Bachelor of Global Studies conjoint degree, a Diploma in Languages (DipLang), aBachelor of Arts (Honours) (BA(Hons)), Graduate Diploma in Arts (GradDipArts), Postgraduate Diploma in Arts(PGDipArts) or a Master of Arts (MA) in French, German, Latin, Italian or Spanish; or a Graduate Diploma inTeaching (Secondary) (GradDipTchg(Sec)) in Teaching French, German, Greek, Latin, Italian or Spanish.
The Scholarship is tenable by students who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.

Decision makers

The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Deputy Head (Academic) of the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics (or nominee), the convenor of the disciplinary area of French (or nominee) and one representative of the donor.

History or background of award

The Scholarship was established in 2018 and is funded by Faculty of Arts alumnus Elizabeth Wells in memory of her mother Elon Wells, also an alumnus of the Faculty of Arts.
