Length of award
The Scholarship will have a maximum tenure of three years.
The Scholarships may continue for consecutive periods of enrolment for up to three years duration, provided that the recipient:
• Is enrolled full - time;
• Achieves at least a B average across all papers taken in each year of tenure; and
• Participates in the prescribed leadership and personal development programme.

Purpose of award
The purpose of the Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders’ Scholarship is to provide support for students to achieve academically in a programme of study at the University of Waikato.
To be eligible for consideration, candidate’s must:
a) be of Pacific Island descent;
b) be enrolling full-time (a full-time academic year comprises 120 points) in an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Waikato for the first time1, commencing in the year following application; and
c) be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
An Edna Monday Future Pacific Leaders’ Scholarship may not be held concurrently with any University of Waikato tuition or accommodation fees school leaver scholarships, including the following:
• The University of Waikato School Leaver Scholarship/The University of Waikato School Leaver Scholarship for Excellence
• Northland Future Leaders’ School Leaver Scholarship
• Te Ara ki Angitū Scholarship
• Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement
• Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarshipf) DV Bryant Trust University of Waikato Residential Scholarship
• Te Pua Wananga kit e Ao–The Faculty of Maori and Indigenous Studies Scholarship for Academic Distinction
• Any University of Waikato Faculty-funded tuition or accommodation fees scholarship
An Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders’ Scholarship can be held concurrently with any externally funded scholarship, unless the conditions of the other award preclude this.
The Scholarships Executive may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup any funds disbursed if the holder withdraws from the University, is not participating in the leadership and personal development programme, brings the scholarship programme or the University into disrepute, or is otherwise not complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship and/or the regulations of the University of Waikato. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Education Committee against any decision to terminate the Schol arship.
In signing and returning the Scholarship acceptance form, the student will be deemed to have read, understood, and accepted the conditions for the award and retention of the Scholarship.
By accepting a Scholarship, the recipient agrees to participate in any publicity concerning the Scholarship as arranged by the University of Waikato.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Successful applicants will be advised of the conditional offer of a Scholarship and must acceptthe offer by the prescribed date or the offer will lapse.
If a Scholarship offer is declined or lapses, the Selection Panel may offer a Scholarship to another applicant.
To maintain eligibility, students offered the Scholarship must gain admission to an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato
The Selection Panel will comprise the Chair of the Scholarships Committee (or nominee) in the Chair, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Pacific), the CME Pacific Advisor, and a Pacific staff member appointed by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Pacific).
The Selection Panel’s decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting.
History or background of award
The Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders’ Scholarship was established to provide academically talented Pacific students who demonstrate significant leadership potential an opportunity to study at the University of Waikato.
Edna Money was a Morrinsville farmer and accountant who bequeathed the sum of $1 million to the University of Waikato to benefit Pacific students.
The value of the Scholarship will be $6,000 per annum for up to three years.
• The award will be paid in two equal instalments annually. The first instalment of $3,000 will be paid at the commencement of the A semester and the second $3,000 instalment at the commencement of the B semester.
The Scholarship will be applied to tuition fees (including student services levy) and/or University halls of residence accommodation costs.
Recipients will participate in a tailored leadership and personal development programme.
Recipients will be eligible for a place in the University’s halls of residence.
