Purpose of award
To assist students who would not otherwise be able to continue with university studies.
The fund shall be for the purpose of assisting students to commence or to continue their studies at the University of Canterbury, who would otherwise by reason of their financial circumstances be unable to do so or be seriously handicapped in doing so.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Grants will not normally exceed $300
How do students apply?
Applications for awards from the fund should be made to the Registrar no later than 5.00 p.m. on 31 March; but applications may be considered at other times when the circumstances justify special consideration.
The online application system will begin accepting applications eight weeks before the closing date.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applicants are notified by letter of success, or otherwise, within 6-8 weeks of the closing date.
Awards from the fund shall be made by the Council on the recommendation of the Academic Board.
History or background of award
This fund was instituted in 1974 by Mrs A MacGibbon in memory of her husband, William Smith MacGibbon.
All applications for awards from the fund must be accompanied by a statement of the financial position of the applicant.
