$16,000 or less

Length of award
One year.
The scholarships are awarded for study at a recognised New Zealand or overseas tertiary institution.
They can be used toward fees, travel, accommodation and/or living expenses.
Number of awards offered
Two
Purpose of award
To enable young musicians to undertake study or to gain further musical experience at a tertiary institution in New Zealand or overseas.
Selection criteria
You must:
have completed as a minimum a university degree, a diploma, and/or LTCL or LRSM qualification related to your proposed musical studies
be a New Zealand citizen or resident
preferably be under 25.

How do students apply?
How to apply
To apply:
Start your application online (you may need to register first).
Gather support material.
Prepare a budget using our budget template.
Submit your application online by 5pm on the closing date.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Ten weeks after the closing date, we will email the result of your application.
At the same time we also list succcessful applicants on the who got funded web page.
Decision makers
Applications are assessed by Creative New Zealand staff and external peer assessors. Pasifika or Māori artists and practitioners are involved in assessing Pacific and Māori arts applications.
History or background of award
This scholarship was established in 2011 with interest from the estate of the late Mr Brent Lewis.
Additional information
On completion
You will need to complete a Project Completion Report (doc 266KB) within 12 months of completing study.
