Purpose of award
The main purpose of these Scholarships is to encourage and support students undertaking study in Music, especially where this funding would make a significant contribution to their financial needs.
To take up and be paid the Scholarships candidates must be enrolled and have paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in their second or subsequent year of undergraduate study or any year of postgraduate study in the School of Music.
Students studying a conjoint degree programme are eligible to apply.
The basis of selection will be academic merit and demonstrated financial need.
Financial need will be determined by a range of factors including previous or current eligibility for a StudyLink Student Allowance, and personal and financial circumstances.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Scholarship may be held concurrently with any other award or grant as long as a) the terms of that award or grant permit and b) the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves.
How do students apply?
How and when do students learn of the decision?
By letter or email, approximately 6 weeks after the application closing date.
The Scholarships will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Head of the School of Music (or nominee), one member of Academic Staff of the School of Music, as appointed by the Head of the School of Music and one representative of the Donor (appointed by sponsors or trustees).
History or background of award
The Fehl Charitable Trust Scholarships were established in 2014 and are funded by Rae and Peter Fehl.
The Scholarships are tenable by students who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
The Scholarship will be paid in one instalment in the second semester.
