Purpose of award
The main purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support students commencing undergraduate study in the School of Music.
To be offered the Scholarship the candidate must be currently enrolled in Year 13 at a New Zealand Secondary School and intending to enrol full-time in a Bachelor of Music or conjoint degree in the School of Music at the University of Auckland in the following year.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Scholarship will be paid in two instalments: one in the first, and one in the second semester (see Note II).The Scholarship may be held concurrently with any other award or grant as long as a) the terms of that award orgrant permit and b) the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves.

Payment will be made in the third week of each semester upon confirmation of eligible enrolment.

The Scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committe
History or background of award
The Scholarship was established in 2016. Richard Guy Ratcliffe bequeathed funds to the School of Music at the University of Auckland from the Beatrice Ratcliffe Charitable Trust for scholarships.
Financial need will be determined by a range of factors including current eligibility for a StudyLink Student Allowance,and personal and financial circumstances
