Purpose of award

Shareholders in Morikau and their descendents are eligible to apply for grants and scholarships from The Whanganui Trust.

Selection criteria

To be eligible for consideration applicants must:
Be a shareholder or direct descendent (ie son, daughter etc) of a current shareholder or a beneficiary of a shareholding trust of Morikaunui Incorporation.
Be enrolled as a full-time tertiary student at a recognised NZ institution.
Have complied with reporting and all other obligations required of the Trust previously
Have completed this form totally and supplied ALL the required documentation.
 

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Please write about (i) your academic, sporting and other achievements to date and (ii) what you hope to achieve with the qualifications you are seeking with reference to any benefit to Maori in general.

Notification and payment will be after 30 April.

History or background of award

Welcome to The Whanganui Trust the charitable arm of Morikaunui Incorporation (Morikau).
 

Additional information

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS AVAILABLE

The Post-graduate and two Undergraduate Scholarships are administered by the Trust on behalf of Morikau. Successful candidates seeking a roll-over are to supply their results showing 100% success and confirmation that the same course is being pursued before the next instalment will be paid.

Post-graduate Scholarship
W R Metekingi Scholarship @ $5,000 pa for one year (recipients can apply again for a 2nd year)
Includes full time study for an Honours or Masters degree where an under-graduate degree is a prerequisite or towards a Doctorate

Under-graduate Scholarship
The two general Scholarships are valued at $1,000 pa, for up to 3 years. They are for full time study for a degree or for a post graduate diploma taking at least one year for which a degree is a prerequisite.

Hera Scott Wells Scholarshipfor up to three years @ $1,000 pa.
Hoeroa Marumaru Scholarship for up to three years @ $1,000 pa
Minimum number available in 2017: Possibly only two

1 x Trust Scholarship for any degree majoring in a subject with an Agricultural/Farming/ Land
based focus. This is valued at $2,500 for one year (after a successful 1st year). [Recipients may apply again if they have passed all their previous year's subjects

1 x Farm Training or Trade Scholarship towards the cost of undertaking a recognised NZQA approved course of no less than one year. This is valued at up to $2,500 for one year (the award may be shared by no more than two people). [Recipients may apply again if they have passed all their previous year's subjects.

Education Grants up to $500. As with the Scholarships, these grants are for those undertaking fulltime study only who have fulfilled the application requirements. Awards will be made to unsuccessful scholarship applicants and those making specific application.
There is an annual budgeted amount ($28,750 for 2017) for the Education and the Year 13 Grants. The amount awarded to each applicant therefore depends on the number entitled to the awards

Year 13 Grant up to $250. This is for students undertaking NZEA three or four or equivalent.
