Purpose of award

The purpose of the Scholarships is to further develop the relationship, based on the Memorandum of Understanding, between the University of Auckland and Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei.
 

Selection criteria

The Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in full-time study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts.
The Scholarships are tenable by students who are beneficiaries of the Ngäti Whätua o Ōrakei Māori Trust Board.
The basis of selection will be academic merit.
 

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Eligible applicants may receive a further grant if they undertake study at a higher academic level e.g. BA and BA (Hons),MA or PhD.
 

How do students apply?

Applicatios open generally 6 weeks before closing date.

Scholarship Details

How and when do students learn of the decision?

Approximately six weeks after the closing date by letter or email.
The Scholarship’s emolument will be paid in two instalments, one in each semester.
 

Decision makers

The Scholarships will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Arts (or nominee), the Head of Discipline of Māori Studies (or nominee) and the Associate Dean Equity (or nominee).

History or background of award

The Scholarships were established in 2009 and are funded by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland.
 

Additional information

The Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in full-time study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts.
The Scholarship may not be held concurrently with a University of Auckland Scholarship, a University of Auckland Chancellor's Award for Top Māori and Pacific Scholars, a University of Auckland Alumni Scholarship, or a University of Auckland Jubilee Award.
