Purpose of award
You must be a registered beneficiary of the Tuwharetoa Māori Trust Board before applying for this scholarship and you have studied at a Tertiary level, at an approved NZQA Tertiary Institute, Polytechnic, Private Training Establishment, Wananga or Whare Wananga, University or Industry Training Organisation ITO.
Selection criteria
To be considered for a scholarship applicants must have:
• Completed one year of Tertiary Study
• Achieved an A-average in their course of study for the previous year. (If your Institute does not award grade passes, you must provide some equivalent evidence of achievement excellence from your Institution).
Education Grants:
To apply for an education grant applicants must be a registered beneficiary and attending one of the following:
• NZQA recognised tertiary establishment e.g. University, Polytechnic, Wānanga, Private Training Establishment, Industry Training Organisation
• Secondary School and studying to attain NCEA levels
• Kōhanga Reo or registered Early Childhood Education Centre; or
• Has Special Needs and is attending school or participating in vocational training

(Targeted discretionary scholarships may be awarded in conjunction with scholarship partners (details will be advised in any year in which these apply)

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Ten scholarship recipients are chosen each year across these study areas:
Māori, Health, Forestry, Agriculture, Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Education and Environmental studies

Additional information
Postgraduate and PhD students completing work by thesis (where grades are yet to be awarded) may be considered for scholarships, by providing a letter of recommendation from your thesis supervisor which should include an overview of your thesis progress to date.
Apprentices may apply where they have completed a national certificate with merit toward their trade, by providing a recommendation letter from their ITO.
