What does the scholarship get me?
Approximately $2,500; subject to funds available.

Up to two scholarships.
Purpose of award
The scholarship is open to New Zealand and Canadian citizens. Applicants must be full-time female students studying any area of science, including Architecture and Design, from 300-level, BSc(Hons) and Master’s by course work.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Victoria University Foundation will expect recipients to write a letter of thanks to the donor on receipt of the award.
How do students apply?
A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
The Scholarship is based on academic merit. In the case of two or more equally worthy applicants financial need will also be taken into consideration.

Selection committee comprises of the Dean of Science (or nominee); and other approriate staff.
History or background of award
This Scholarship was established, through the Victoria University Foundation, in 2002 by Peter Preston-Thomas in honour of his daughter Averil.
Additional information
The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with another scholarship subject to the approval of the Academic Board.
