Length of award

Each Bursary will be awarded for up to three years.

Number of awards offered

The Trust awards approximately 20 bursaries each year.

Purpose of award

The Central Energy Trust also provides up to 15 Bursaries each year to students to provide assistance with the cost of their tertiary education and training.

Selection criteria

Academic study is defined as an undergraduate degree course at Massey University, UCOL, Te Wanaga O Aotearoa or Inernational Pacific United NZ.
Vocational study is defined as study towards a degree, diploma or trade qualification at UCOL, Massey University, Te Wanaga O Aotearoa or International Pacific United Nz or an accredited Private Training Organisation and which is related to a qualification for a specified vocation.

Applicants for the bursary must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, must reside in the Manawatu/ Tararua region (the old CentralPower Electricity Trust Area) and be intending to reside and study in the Manawatu/Tararua region for the duration of their course of study.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

50% of the bursary is normally paid for the first year of study and the balance in equal instalments over the remaining period of the bursary.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

Bursary payments are made at the beginning of each academic year in February/March. Shortlisted Applicants will need to attend an Interview

History or background of award

The Central Energy Trust provides grants to community, sporting, educational, cultural and health organisations within the Manawatu/Tararua regions for projects which are energy-related and which will benefit the consumer's of the former CentralPower/ElectroPower energy companies. The range of organisations that benefit from funding provided by the Central Energy Trust can be seen by the assortment of photos displayed throughout the website.

(For the 2019 year the Trust has awarded 15 Bursaries totaling $70,000).

Additional information

Shortlisted Applicants will need to attend an Interview on Thursday, 5 December or Friday, 6 December 2019.
