Purpose of award
Piki ake kake ake is a metaphorical term in te reo Māori that means to climb and to ascend. In the context of this scholarship, piki ake kake ake symbolises the hopes and aspirations of tangata whenua, by assisting four Māori students to excel in the disciplines of communication management, expressive arts, journalism, linguistics, marketing, media studies and public relations. The School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing and the School of English and Media Studies wish to assist and support Māori students to be successful.
Selection criteria
Applicants must be:
• of Māori descent and be registered in the University’s database as being of Māori descent
• enrolling for third-year full-time study in the Bachelor of Communication in the following academic year.

Regulations
How and when do students learn of the decision?
The money is paid directly towards the recipients’ fees in the Bachelor of Communication.
Decision makers
The scholarships are awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of a selection panel. The selection panel consists of representatives from the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, and the School of English and Media Studies.
