Purpose of award
For academic achievement award for female school-leavers in Year 13, enrolling directly into an EIT programme of at least 1 years duration.
Selection criteria
The scholarship is for all females enrolling at EIT Hawke’s Bay at any level, limited to students who have been resident in Hawke’s Bay for the last 12 months and must be a New Zealand resident. It will be awarded on the basis of qualities and attributes that would enable them to succeed and possibly staircase into higher academic programmes. This is not available for females already receiving fee support through government or EIT scholarships. (This does not include student loans).
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Applicants must - Express in writing your motivation for working in your chosen study area, including where you see your future career path, and what opportunity you would like to create for yourself in this industry or sector. This must be supplied as a cover letter with a minimum of 250 words. Provide written references from two of the following: Your current school or Member of the community or Employer - paid or voluntary. Provide evidence of a brief, realistic career path. Be a New Zealand permanent resident or citizen.

Applications close on 31 January and applicants will be advised of the outcome by 20 February.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applicants will be advised of the outcome by 20 February.
Decision makers
The granting of the scholarship will be assessed by a panel comprising of - A Students’ Association representative. At least two other people appointed by the Chief Executive. The panel’s decision will be final.
History or background of award
The Margaret Hetley Scholarship is awarded annually in February and was established to assist women to undertake tertiary study and to commemorate the centennial year of the women’s suffrage movement. It was named in memory of Mrs Margaret Hetley who gifted the EIT campus to the Hawke’s Bay community.
Additional information
Payment of the scholarship will be made by the Otātāra Trust Inc to the EIT Registry Office in part payment of the successful applicant’s course fees.
