Jana - Police officer Police officer Jana likes the challenge of coming to work every day and not knowing what is going to happen. What are some of the things police officers do? Watch the slideshow below to find out …
“Not all of police work is out and about – there’s also paperwork to take care of. When I first started, the paperwork was a good challenge, just getting on top of it and understanding the law and legislation.”

"I was interested in something a bit different, and I didn’t want anything boring!" For Jana, work as a police officer provides exactly that. "I like the variety and challenge of coming in every day and having no idea what’s going to happen. "My favourite bit about the job is the camaraderie, though there are plenty of other upsides to working as a police officer. For example, the Beckham game – not everyone had the opportunity to stand on the field and watch part of the game, then have the superstar walking right beside them!" Jana points out that it's often the little things that give him job satisfaction. "There are challenges in the job all the time, not just in catching criminals. Even small things like passing a test or requalifying for your firearms training – it’s not big, but it gives you a sense of achievement." One of the fears Jana had about joining the police was being thrown in at the deep end from the start. "I came out of college thinking, 'Am I expected to know everything?' But you’ve always got senior officers who are available to you and they make sure you are comfortable with what you’re doing. Still, you have to be receptive to the information you are given. Basically you’ve got to be a motivated, flexible, and open-minded person to join the police. "If you’re thinking about joining, it’s important to learn as much as possible about what the job really involves. It’s definitely a career, not just a job. Also, there are plenty of different options within the police, so once you’re in, there are many avenues you can take. If you go for it, you’ll probably be very happy with whatever you decide to do."
