About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is intended for candidates of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue academic study requiring high levels of English language competency.
Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic contexts.
This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) high B2.
This qualification allows educational institutions and professional bodies to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for academic and/or professional purposes.
Key Information for Students
Applicants must be 16 years of age or older on the 1st of January in the year that the student enrolls; AND can reasonably expect to achieve the standards required for successful completion of the programme or course. For International Students or Non-English Speaking New Zealand Residents: Applicants must gain NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) OR provide evidence of CER C1 in the VITAL test OR provide an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band lower than 6.0 OR an accepted international equivalence. Applicants using VITAL CEFR C1 evidence will be required to take a NorthTec internal placement test.
