What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hospitality sector with people who are able to work in management roles, across a range of hospitality sectors.
Graduates will have experience working in the hospitality sector and sufficient and suitable knowledge of the industry to inform their acquisition of hospitality management knowledge and skills at an advanced level.
Graduates will be able to fulfil the requirement of management roles in a wide range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
This qualification also establishes standards of professional practice for hospitality managers that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Key Information for Students
Applicants must be of at least 17.5 years of age; NZQA level 5 Diploma (or equivalent for international students). English requirement is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent for international students. PIHMS requires that applicants have a minimum of six months hospitality industry experience in food and beverage at a 4 or 5 star hotel, subject to the normal PIHMS progression criteria.
