Entry requirements
The following legislative requirements apply to transcription.
Whilst there is no specific New Zealand Code of Ethics pertaining to medical transcriptionists, it is recommended that the AHDI Code of Ethics be followed by those transcribing for the New Zealand environment.
The key act pertaining to transcription is the Privacy Act, which follows similar guidelines as the AHDI Code of Ethics.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is intended for individuals who are working in office-based clinical support to progress their careers within the healthcare sector.
It provides the New Zealand public with individuals who are able to transcribe and edit healthcare documentation and records to prescribed procedures and auditable quality standards.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the healthcare sector with graduates capable of operating as medical transcriptionists or editors.
Graduates will be able to operate independently.
