Academic requirement
Standard academic entry requirement
A minimum of University Entrance
OR
Non-standard academic entry requirement
60 credits of successful study at an approved Level 4 or above programme at an accredited tertiary institution
Age requirement
Applicants must be 17 years of age or older at the time of the commencement of the programme.
Health and professional requirement
ALL applicants are required to provide a completed POLICE VETTING REQUEST AND CONSENT Form and a PERSONAL DECLARATION Form (see Appendices 1 and 2) annually.
Any applicant, who does not have English, Maori or New Zealand Sign as their first language, or who did not undertake their secondary schooling in English, is required to have achieved scores of 6.5 or higher in all academic bands of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 85 or higher with a writing score of 22.
Upon the application satisfying academic entry requirements, the applicants are then required to participate in an internal selection process prior to their beginning the programme.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The BSW will enable students to become competent social workers with personal attributes, skills and knowledge to become reflective practitioners able to think critically, use current research and work collaboratively within the social work profession as beginning social workers. They will also have the educational requirements for NZ registration and be equipped to proceed to advanced study in the subject.
