About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides the automotive electrical engineering industry with individuals who can work independently and have attained the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults in a range of vehicles or machines.

The qualification has been designed for individuals who are beginning a career as an automotive electrical technician.

Graduates of this qualification can work independently and may take some responsibility for monitoring the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

A Level 3 qualification in Automotive Engineering, or Evidence of equivalent skills and knowledge Must be employed in an automotive engineering workplace For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. Detailed Requirements A Level 3 qualification in Automotive Engineering, or Equivalent skills and knowledge Must be employed in an automotive engineering workplace which is operating at a commercially acceptable industry standard. Enrolment into this programme will also require the apprentice, employer, and provider to enter into a training agreement (see Appendix 9). International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either Academic or Applied, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) The Table.
