An undergraduate degree
Alternative Requirements
If you do not hold a Bachelor degree you may:
provide evidence of having completed a professional qualification; and
provide evidence of successful completion of a qualification or programme of study which is equivalent to those of first degree graduates, through the submission of a portfolio of evidence.
Additional Requirements
Applicants need to practice in the role of supervisor and/or have access to appropriate colleagues with whom to arrange this practice experience. If necessary, supervisory practice with other students undertaking the programme may be used to meet this practice requirement.
Two years' work experience relevant to professional supervision.
English Language Requirements
If English is not the applicant's first language, they are required to provide evidence of English language skills as listed below. If they have no evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, the applicant should contact Ara for an assessment.
IELTS 6.5 Academic (no lower than 6.0 in subtests).
Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
Applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills.
Admission
Applicants who meet the requirements for admission are accepted into the programme in the order their applications are received.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
Graduates of this programme will be able to articulate a supervisory framework that integrates theory and practice enabling them to apply knowledge and skills as a professional supervisor in a range of contexts. Graduates will also have advanced skills in critical thinking and reflective and culturally responsive practice. This qualification will meet the needs of professionals by enhancing career progression in specialised fields of practice, and through meeting the requirements of professional, regulatory bodies and the supervisory needs of a diverse workforce population. The target market for the PGCertPS are qualified professionals with supervisory opportunities and/or experience, and/or professionals who wish to develop and extend their skills and knowledge in professional supervision within the context of their work and career.
