Entry requirements
Applicants to the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) must have qualified for the award of a Bachelor's degree at Level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, or a recognised equivalent degree programme, and, through the advanced levels of their degree, show that they have a depth and breadth of knowledge allowing them lead learning in their chosen subject (or subjects) at all levels in New Zealand primary schools.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) is to support the New Zealand primary school system by providing graduates who are job-ready on the first day of their teaching careers and able to teach students from Years 1 to 8 successfully with minimal induction or guidance. The programme will also ensure that graduates are able to operate programmes of learning support, which will assist graduates to support the learning aspirations of families within communities that may have lower learning outcomes - including Māori and Pasifika. The programme has a strong focus on the teaching of literacy and numeracy. The target group for this qualification includes those people who have already completed a degree, and are committed to teaching in New Zealand schools
