About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the youth work sector with youth workers who have operational and theoretical knowledge skills and attitudes to practise youth work independently.

This qualification is intended for people to enhance their skills, knowledge, and practice as a Youth Worker.

Graduates will be able to work autonomously under professional supervision and contribute to positive youth development outcomes in diverse and defined contexts.

Graduates will uphold positive youth development approaches and practice that are informed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, The Code of Ethics for Youth Work, Mana Taiohi, current positive youth development frameworks and legislative requirements.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

The entry requirements for this programme are: - NCEA Level 2 or equivalent OR - New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 4) [NZ2449] OR - Relevant work experience and evidence of suitability. Minimum Age Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years old at the start of the programme. Additional requirements: Learners are required to fulfil the requirements of the Children s act 2014 (formerly the Vulnerable Children s Act 2014,) safety check which includes: - Police Check clearance to a level required for working with vulnerable children. - Two Referees (not family or friends) - An Interview NZSE Youth Work L5 PAAD v2.0 NZ4795v1 [Feb2025] Page 48 of 137 - A short statement of intent - why the learner wishes to join the programme English Language Requirements: Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake the programme which is taught and assessed in English.
