Entry requirements

Entry requirements:
The learners must be at least 16 years old.
Have basic level of English to be able to complete the training course and perform duties. This will be evaluated by the Student Engagement Manager/Administration Manager during the conversational screening interviews and discussions which are part of Skipper Training's enrolment processes.

No other pre-requisites are required to complete this micro-credential, however Maritime NZ requires candidates meet the following before they can be issued a Maritime NZ certificate of competency:
* Prove you have met the minimum sea service requirements
* complete and pass an approved training course
* have the required ancillary certificates and a steering certificate
* pass Maritime NZ's final exam
* prove that you are a fit and proper person
* be medically fit and have good eyesight
* be at least 16 years old.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The aim of this micro-credential is to provide learners with practical skills and knowledge to safely conduct duties of a Deck Watch Rating. This micro- credential is aimed at entry level learners who are new to the maritime industry and interested in working on a vessel and building a career in the growing maritime industry.
