Entry requirements

All students, irrespective of Christian denomination, ethnicity of cultural identity are welcome to apply to study with us.

For General Admission, all applicants typically are expected to have achieved one of the following:
* National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), with a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework, and
* A minimum of 8 credits in English at Level 2 (or higher); 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits in writing.
* A grade of C or higher in each of 3 subjects in New Zealand University Entrance, Business and Scholarships (NZUEBS) examinations.
* NCEA equivalence which can include NZQA Level 4 certificates in a similar discipline, or other NZQA Level 5 certificates in a different discipline.

As all tuition is given in English, all applicants need to be proficient in understanding, reading, writing, and speaking English.

Candidates over 20 who do not meet the specific criteria above may apply for special consideration and be asked to submit further evidence of prior learning and experience to ensure suitability for study.

Candidates should have some foundational knowledge of scripture. No prior experience in preaching is necessary (although it may be helpful).

Candidates will be expected to have the support of their faith community leadership to present their sermon as part of the assessment.

About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide training for mainly part-time and volunteer preachers within churches and faith-based organisations across Aotearoa.

The course aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills to prepare and deliver sermons that are:
* Faithful to the text of Scripture
* Relevant to the context in which we live today
* Clear in content and structure
* Engaging for those who listen
* Formative and transformative for both the preacher and the listener.
