About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide Pacific Island laboratories with laboratory personnel that have the skills, knowledge and attributes to work in Blood Transfusion laboratories in their respective countries.
Graduates will have in-depth skills and knowledge of blood transfusion and blood transfusion processes i.e. from the blood donor's vein to the patient's vein. (Blood Donation, Blood and Blood Products, Transfusion Transmitted Infections, Antiglobulin Testing, Issuing of Blood, Hemovigilance and Quality in Blood Transfusion).
Graduates of this training will benefit Pacific Island countries, their laboratories, and their communities and their families through the contribution and promotion of their improved skills and knowledge of Blood Transfusion. The theoretical knowledge and practical applications of Blood Transfusion is lacking in the Pacific, and this training will equip students with sufficient knowledge to be able to work confidently in their home laboratories and be able to provide quality diagnostic test results to clinicians who are using the medical laboratory services for patient management and better health outcomes.
This micro-credential is designed and intended for medical laboratory staff who are currently employed working in the Pacific Island countries. E.g. Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands etc.
