About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

Bachelor of Design (Honours) graduates will design in a critically-informed, theoretically underpinned and reflective way, utilising design processes that involve design research processes, analysis, evaluation and synthesis. They will combine a high level of technical proficiency in their specialisation with intellectual and conceptual rigour, respond creatively to client requirements and demonstrate innovative ways to meet their needs, and demonstrate grounding in business and professional practice. Graduates will be effective communicators, express identity through design, demonstrate respect for cultural differences, ability to embrace cultural diversity, and appreciate the distinctive characteristics of Aotearoa/New Zealand in the wider global context. They will critically evaluate their own performance and the work of others, demonstrate personal and professional integrity, an awareness of ethical issues and will operate in a professional manner. They will acknowledge and consider matters of sustainability and adapt to changing environments and conditions. Graduates will undertake and present the results of research projects in which they apply a range of design research methods to result in creative solutions to design problems. Through practice and scholarship they will be able to contribute to the ongoing development of design as a discipline.
