About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have business knowledge and skills that can be applied in a range of strategic business contexts.

Graduates will be able to contribute to the achievement of business strategic objectives, through the application of knowledge and skills, in an ethical and inclusive manner in accordance with ngā kaupapa o te Tiriti o Waitangi (the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi), and in a multi-cultural environment.

The qualification includes strands that allow graduates to apply business knowledge and skills in a range of specialised strategic contexts. Some strands can lead to further credentialing by professional bodies.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Applicants must have: a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the Directory of Assessment Standards; and 50 NCEA credits at level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects, including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori; of which 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards found on the NZQA website at Literacy requirements for University Entrance; or equivalent to the above; or New Zealand University Entrance; or Successful completion of Level 5 New Zealand Diploma in Business. International students for whom English is not a first language must either meet one of the English language proficiency standards set out below IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5 in one test event or equivalent or complete two years study at a New Zealand secondary school and achieve either NCEA Level 3 or New Zealand University Entrance or both. Provisional entry may also be granted to applicants who do not meet the criteria above, but present evidence of ability to succeed, (e.g.,maturity, life experience, work experience, other study); or provide evidence of relevant prior learning and experience All applicants will be required to complete an NZCDI Enrolment Form and may be interviewed in person or via telephone or Skype to evaluate their suitability for the programme.
