What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for education practitioners who want to develop the literacy and numeracy skills of adult learners by embedding those skills into community, vocational or workplace programmes. It is a non-specialist introduction to embedding literacy and numeracy into adult and tertiary education and training.

Graduates of this qualification will have skills and knowledge related to the basics of embedded literacy and numeracy design, facilitation, assessment and evaluation.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

NCEA Level 2 plus 42 credits at Level 3 or equivalent; or evidence of ability to meet academic requirements and English language competency where English is not a first language. Access to an authentic teaching/training context. Detailed Requirements - NCEA Level 2 includes passes in English or Te Reo Maori. - New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. - For candidates who come from non-English speaking backgrounds, an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0, or an equivalent relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF-related rules (Rule 18); or evidence of English language competency may be required. - Candidates who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills. - All candidates must carry out Practicum in an authentic teaching or training context and must meet the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
