About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with people who have the practical and professional knowledge and skills in the law, and who are or intend to be employed in law firms or in other organisations to assist lawyers in meeting the law-related needs of clients and/or employers.
Graduates of this qualification will be qualified to work as legal executives under the supervision of a practising lawyer.
Key Information for Students
NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2 (including 10 level two Numeracy credits) and a minimum of 42 credits (including 10 Reading and Writing credits) at level 3; or Evidence of ability to complete academic requirements for the programme. English language requirement: International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. The level of competency required is outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013 and for a level 6 diploma is: IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 with the Academic endorsement, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) The Table. For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language evidence of language competency will be required.
