Entry requirements
The entry requirements for the MTESOL are a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) with a grade average of B or better in Linguistics, English Language, Education or a language other than English (or another relevant degree), and at least two years of professional experience in language education or a related field. Applicants without relevant experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be expected to complete bridging courses depending on the nature and extent of their previous experience and qualifications.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
Graduates of the MTESOL will demonstrate advanced knowledge of a range of topics on the nature of language, second language learning and the teaching of English as an additional language. They will be able to engage critically and creatively with the relevant research literature and apply knowledge from research to the teaching and learning of additional languages and to communication about language teaching and learning. The programme develops high-level skills for work in language and education policy and prepares students for entry into PhD programmes in New Zealand or internationally.
