About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The BEd is a four-year degree programme which offers technology pathways to secondary technology teachers and those people who want a career change from tradesperson to teacher. The pathways involve the approval of exemptions based on candidates' qualifications and experience, and support the Ministry of Education's initiative to provide study awards and scholarships. Graduates of the BEd with a specialisation in Technology are independent beginning professionals with an in depth knowledge of teaching and learning processes and a repertoire of teaching and assessment strategies. On completion of the degree they will: understand the New Zealand National Curriculum and have a knowledge base relevant to Technology in secondary schools; understand teaching and learning theories and processes and be able to justify, critique, and evaluate their teaching practice with rigour; understand and be able to use appropriate teaching techniques including effective planning and preparation, managing and organising, assessing and evaluating, and recording; and understand the social, cultural, economic, political, historical and technological contexts of education and their impact on educational practice.
